Hotels in Tibet

Tibet is a very simple place and usually you can't expect its hotels as good as those in big cities like Beijing, Shanghai etc. Even for the same standard hotels, you may find the one in Lhasa could be better than that out of Lhasa. There are very few 5 star hotels in Lhasa and all of them are located out of the old town area. In other cities/towns such as Shigatse, Gyantse and Tsedang, the best ranked hotels are in 3 stars only. And at rest places, there are mainly guesthouses or hostels.

For the accommodation at the Everest area, the best accommodation in Tingri (Shegar) is currently the Bepar Hotel and that at Rongbuk Monastery is the Rongbuk Monastery Hotel which is also called Guangjingtai Hotel. The Ronbuk Monastery Guesthouse is in dorm. type and with no private toilet or bathroom. Though these accommodations are not 3-star or even in poor condition, the cost is nearly the same as a 3-star hotel in Lhasa.

And for the family guesthouses in Tibet, there are rooms of 2 beds, 3 beds or 4 beds but most of them are also not attached with private toilets or bathrooms. When staying at guesthouses, you are kindly suggested to take a sleeping bag if possible.
