Day 01 Arrive in Lhasa
Accommodation: Standard 3-star Hotel
The Tibetan tour guide will meet you at Lhasa Gonggar Airport and greet you with a white scarf (called Kada) in a Tibetan traditional way. Then transfer you to Lhasa City (100km's driving). On the way, you will see the big
Nietang Buddha engraved in a mountain wall. Upon arrival, just take rest for high altitude acclimatization.
Day 02 Sightsee in Lhasa
Accommodation: Standard 3-star Hotel [B]
We will start from the spiritual center of Tibetan Buddhism -
Jokhang Temple. Around the temple is the famous bustling
Barkhor Street where you can get a close touch with local Tibetans.
In the afternoon, we will visit the most beautiful splendor in Tibet -
Potala Palace, the symbol of Tibetan people's wisdom and power. Beside the numerous art pieces it stores, you can also have a bird-eye view of the whole Lhasa City and the undulating mountain ranges in distance.
And in the evening, pay a visit to a
Tibetan family.
Day 03 Sightseeing in Lhasa
Accommodation: Standard 3-star Hotel [B]
Today we will visit the great Gelugpa monastery -
Drepung Monastery about 8km west of central Lhasa. It was once the world's largest monastery housing more than 10,000 monks. If we are lucky, we can enter into a dark columned hall quiet easily to see and hear the lilting, booming, chanting of sutras.
In the afternoon, we will visit
Sera Monastery, about 5km north of central Lhasa. Here you can see the interesting "Buddhism Scriptures Debating" between Lamas.
Day 04 Lhasa - Shigatse
Accommodation: Standard 3-star Hotel [B]
In the fresh morning air, we'll drive about 280km to Shigatse, the second largest city in Tibet. Upon arrival, visit the foremost attraction there -
Tashilumpo Monastery. and then wander around the
old town of Shigatse for its nicely decorated Tibetan houses, interesting market and bazaar...
Day 05 Shigatse - Ronbuk Monastery
Accommodation: Ronbuk Monastery Guesthouse [B]
Drive about 350km to
Ronbuk Monastery, the highest monastery in the world via
Gantsola Mountain Pass (5220m). Today's driving may make you feel little bit tired but you will be arriving at the gate of Mt. Everest. Hopefully we can enjoy the glorious evening scenery of Mt. Everest in distance upon arrival.
Day 06 Ronbuk Monastery - Mt. Everest Base Camp - Tingri
Accommodation: Tingri Hotel* or Budget Guesthouse [B]
In the early morning we will drive/take a carriage heading about 10km to
Mt. Everest Base Camp. Upon arrival, you can enjoy the splendid morning scenery of Mt. Everest and start your life-time experience with this highest mountain in the world. In the afternoon, we will get back to Tingri.
Day 07 Tingri - Zhangmu
Accommodation: Sherpa Hostel or Similar [B]
Drive 280km to Zhangmu, a border town between China and Nepal. On the way, you will enjoy the panoramic views of the snow-capped
Himalayan Range.
Day 08 Zhangmu - Kathmandu
Accommodation: Standard 3-star Hotel [B]
On this last day in Tibet, we will see you off at the
Friendship Bridge/Kodari where you are supposed to go through the China customers. Our Kathmandu guide will be being waiting for you at the other side of the bridge and then drive about 140km to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, visit the famous
Kathmandu Durbar Square.
Day 09 Leave Kathmandu [B]
The guide will transfer you to the airport and help you board the plane to your next destination. Your wonderful Tibet-Kathmandu overland tour ends.
