Tibet Tour Planning
To design a tour for you, the first thing we need to know is how long you would like to spend in Tibet. With this information, we can design a tour covering most interesting places within your limited travel time. We provide all kinds of tours as you like, including conventional tours, adventure tours, rafting, trekking, etc. Here is some information about how we design a regular tour for you.
No one will travel in Tibet without visiting Lhasa City. Usually it takes three days to complete the main scenic spots there. On the first day, you are not suggested to take many activities but just rest for the high altitude acclimatization. And on the following two days, there are guided tours to the most interesting places in Lhasa including Potala Palace, Sera Monastery, Tibet Museum, Drepung Monastery, Norbulingka, Jokhang Temple and the bustling bazaar in the Barkhor Street, etc. Within this three days, most people could be able to get used to the high altitude.
And then we will leave for other places you would like to visit (of course it must be confirmed in advance so that we can handle all necessary permits for you). If it is open to our advices, we will recommend routes as follows:
- Lhasa - Ganden Monastery / Curpu Monastery - Lhasa (5 days)
- Lhasa - Namtso Lake / Yamdrok Yumtso Lake - Lhasa (6 / 7 days)
- Lhasa - Tsedang (5 / 6 days)
- Lhasa - Gyantse - Shigatse - Lhasa (6 / 7 days)
- Lhasa - Gyantse - Shigatse - Tingri - Mt. Everest - Tingri - Shigatse - Lhasa (9 / 10 days)
- Lhasa - Gyantse - Shigatse - Tingri - Mt. Everest - Tingri - Zhangmu - Kathmandu (8 / 9 days)
- Lhasa - Gyantse - Shigatse - Ngamring - Saga - Paryang - Lake Manasoravar - Mt. Kailash - Paryang - Saga - Pelku Tso Lake - Mt. Everest - Tingri - Shigatse/Zhangmu - Lhasa/Kathmandu (around 30 days)
- Combination of the above tours
Meanwhile, we provide other tours such as hiking/trekking, bicycling, rafting, festival tours etc. to meet any of your special interests. The most popular and well-developed trekking routes in Tibet are:
- Trekking from Ganden Monastery to Samye Monastery: villages and mountains
- Trekking to Namtso Lake: villages and lake
- Trekking to and around Yamdrok Yumtso Lake: villages and lake
- Trekking to Mt. Everest Base Camp: the highest mountain in the world
- Trekking around Mt. Kaillash: the sacred mountain in Tibet
And our festival tours will cover the Tibetan New Year Festival (usually February), Saga Dawa Festival (usually May), Gyantse Horse Race and Archery Festival (usually June or July), Shoton Festival (usually August or September), Harvest Festival (usually September), Bathing festival (usually August or September), Nakchu Horse Race Festival (usually August), etc.
As for driving overland to Lhasa, there are all together five routes:
- Chengdu (Sichuan Province) - Lhasa
- Kunming (Yunnan Province) - Lhasa
- Xining (Qinghai Province) - Lhasa
- Yecheng (Xinjiang Province) - Lhasa
- Kathmandu (Nepal) - Lhasa
However, driving from Chengdu, Kunming and Yecheng will be a big challenge if you are not very professional in adventure tours. It requires better physical conditions, good understanding and experience in adventure tours, a lot of courage and determination as well as more time and money. That from Xining and Kathmandu is much easier, but not always available.
Please note that we will arrange the 4WD land cruiser for most tours outside Lhasa and all those overland tours.
In addition, we also provide professional private connecting tours in China and Nepal to connect your trip. We have established long-term cooperation with reliable tour operators in major tour destinations in China such as Beijing, Xi'an, Luoyang, Shanghai, Guilin, Kunming, Chengdu, Chongqing, etc. and in Kathmandu, Nepal.
