2009 Shoton Festival
This year’s Shoton Festival will be held from Aug 20 to Aug 26, 2009. Relevant activities have been proposed and in arrangement now.
The opening ceremony of the 2009 Shoton Festival will begin at around 10:30AM on Aug 20 at the Potala Palace Square. Besides the traditional Giant Thangka Displaying and Tibetan Opera, there will be Damxiong Horse Racing, the Fourth Lhasa Beer Festival, etc.
At about 11:00AM on Aug 20, the art performance at Norbulingka and Zongjiaolukhang Park will start and last for six days. In addition to the religious and cultural activities, there will be business forums and products exhibitions as well, covering about 58 investment projects. The topics and focus will be how to promote the Tibet’s special resources such as that of tourism and agricultural products.
Another eye-catching spot of this Shoton Festival is the ceremony for Hai Bao’s entry into Tibet, the mascot of World Expo 2010, which will be held at around 09:00AM on Aug 22 also at the Potala Palace Square.
And the last activity might be the Fourth Lhasa International Semi-journey Marathon Challenge to be held on Aug 25. On the next day (Aug 26), the 2009 Shoton Festival ends.
